The Lich King leads a force of 10000 scourge to wipe out the Argent Dawn, amassed at Light's Hope Chapel in the Plaguelands. Led by Darion Mograine, the scourge forces appear poised to wipe out the last of the Argent Dawn until the arrival of Tirion Fordring. Powered by the light, Tirion Fordring manages to eliminate most of the scourge forces, causing the remaining soldiers to flee, leaving Darion Mograine to face Tirion one on one. As the two argue, Darion's father, Alexandros Mograine appears suddenly, reminding his son about why he decided to fight Lich King in the first place. This causes the Lich King to appear to and banish Alexandros. This was all part of a carefully laid trap by the Lich King, designed to get Tirion Fordring to reveal himself. The Lich King paralyzes Tirion Fording and taunts the remaining members of the Argent Dawn. The Lich King then releases Tirion Fordring and is ready to eliminate him when Darion Mograine gives Tirion the Ashbring, suddenly cleansed of all corruption. This causes the Lich King to flee back to Northrend. In the aftermath, Tirion Fordring and Darion Mograine agree to merge the Argent Dawn and the Order of the Silver Hand. The Kirin Tor are a group of elite mages that serve as the rulers of Dalaran. They have alliances with both Alliance nations as well as Horde nations, specifically, Quel'Thalas. They have evolved from being a simple ruling body to placing themselves at the forefront of whatever threats are plaguing Azeroth. From the Burning Legion, to maniacal warlords, to the scourge and the Lich King, the Kirin Tor face these challenges head on. Dalaran was initially destroyed when Arthas and Kel'Thuzad (a former member of the Kirin Tor himself), sought to invade Dalaran under orders from the demon Archimonde. Their campaign was successful and led to the death of then Kirin Tor leader Antonidas. They were able to claim the Book of Medivh which they were able to use to bring Archimonde to Azeroth. Upon his arrival, Archimonde destroyed the city of Dalaran, fracturing the Kirin Tor. The Kirin Tor eventually returned to the ruins of Dalaran and placed a magical seal around the city. From inside the city, they began to reconstruct and rebuild their former home. Upon completion, the Kirin Tor raised the city into the air and teleported it to Northrend, serving as a base to overthrow the Lich King once and for all.

The Sunreavers are a group of Blood Elves loyal to the Horde that sought admittance to the Kirin Tor. They were eventually successful, much to the chagrin of the Silver Covenant. They fought alongside both Horde and Alliance forces in the battle against the Lich King. After Garrosh Hellscream assumed command of the Horde, Varian Wrynn sought to have the Sunreavers kicked out of the Kirin Tor, wanting to weaken the Warchief at any cost. To accomplish this goal, Varian Wrynn requested the aid of Jaina Proudmoore. She refused, citing no evidence of why the Sunreavers should be expelled. During this time Garrosh Hellscream sought to invade Darnassus using the Sunreaver portals in Dalaran to bypass the wards that Jaina Proudmoore had set up. His campaign was successful thanks to the loyalty of a few dissenting members of the Sunreaver and Garrosh Hellscream was able to steal the Divine Bell. Once evidence emerged of Sunreaver involvement in the escapade, Jaina Proudmoore exiled the Sunreavers and imprisoned their leader, Aethes Sunreaver in the Violet Citadel. When the Burning Legion attacked Dalaran, Aethas Sunreaver seeks out the legendary fire mage weapon, Felo'melorn, to be used against the Burning Legion. Once the staff is located and secured, Aethas makes his case for readmittance, a case that is accepted by the Kirin Tor, thus allowing the Sunreavers to return to Dalaran.
