Gnomeregan is the capital city of the gnomes, located in Dun Morough. The city itself has a tragic history. Originally founded by mechagnomes, a race of constructs created by the titans, the gnomes came to value technology and documenting their knowledge. They were discovered by the dwarves who were impressed by their technological prowess. This led to an early alliance between the two races as they collaborated to build what would later be known as Gnomeregan. During the second war between the Horde and the Alliance, a force of orcs tried to capture the city. However, they were not ready for the clever machinations of the gnomes and many fell victims to gnomish booby traps. These two events made it an easy decision for the gnomes to throw in with the Alliance. For a time, they mysteriously disappeared. It would later be known that the city of Gnomeregan was sacked by troggs. In an effort to stop the invasion, High Tinker Mekkatorque ordered his followers to flood the lower levels with dangerous radiation. This plan backfired however as the radiation mutated some of the troggs and wiped out a significant portion of the gnomish population. The gnomes then fled to Ironforge, the capital city of the dwarves. After the defeat of the Lich King, the gnomes, with assistance from the Alliance, were able to retake their city.
