The Violet Eye is a group of Kirin Tor mages that are charged with a singular task, keeping tabs on Medivh, the Guardian of Tirisfal. Medivh was once considered to be the most powerful mage of all. However, he was unknowingly possessed by Sargeras. When Medivh's mother, Aegwynn, a powerful mage in her own right, served as Guardian, Azeroth was attacked by Sargeras and the Burning Legion. Aegwynn's arrogance led her to face Sargeras alone. She naively thought she defeated Sargeras in a battle that weakened her greatly. In this time, Sargeras transferred his essence into her body. When Aegwynn became pregnant with Medivh, Sargeras transferred his essence over to him, unkown to both Medivh and Aegwynn. Once Medivh became aware of Sargeras' presence, he fought against him, a battle that drove him insane. It was only through the intervention of Aunduin Lothar and Medivh's own apprentice, Khadgar, that Medivh was defeated. After his defeat, the Violet Eye remained in Karazhan to battle against the evil still haunting it's halls.
